At Rocktops, we’re incredibly fortunate to collaborate with the crème de la crème of interior designers in Kansas City. Today, we proudly present a remarkable kitchen remodel at the Day residence, where we had the pleasure of working alongside our dear friend, the talented Tamara Day!

Designing with Elegance

Our journey began with an inspiring showroom appointment, where Tamara shared her vision and design aspirations for the project. She envisioned the timeless beauty of marble countertops seamlessly extending up the wall to create a captivating full-height backsplash. After careful consideration, Tamara selected the stunning and distinctive Calacatta Benoni marble, a choice that truly exudes elegance.

Meticulous Attention to Detail

During our showroom appointment, we delved into countless intricate details that brought Tamara’s remodel dreams to life. These nuances included incorporating floating wood shelves within the full-height backsplash, opting for an ogee edge for the countertops (including the waterfall leg), and skillfully integrating a drain board within the marble countertop near the sink. Tamara also desired a seamless and raised window sill, achieved through a mitered edge or an overhang that perfectly matched the waterfall’s aesthetic.

Navigating Challenges and Growth

Every project presents its share of trial-and-error situations. With our dedicated installation crew’s perseverance and problem-solving skills, we successfully tackled these challenges, learning valuable lessons along the way to enhance our installation process. When adding shelves to a full-height backsplash, we recommend waiting until after the backsplash is in place. This ensures seamless integration and convenience.

Creating an impeccable ogee edge alongside the full-height backsplash required meticulous adjustments to ensure a flush fit against the wall. Although we had to adapt our initial plan for the window ledge, we found a harmonious compromise by aligning it with the marble countertop’s level, resulting in a cohesive and refined look.

This project has undoubtedly etched its place as one of our all-time favorite remodels. The final outcome surpassed even our wildest expectations, leaving us thrilled to have played a part in transforming Tamara’s kitchen into a true work of art.
